WHERE ARE OUR HAPPY CHILDREN?

BY SONIKA SINGH

When the teacher teaches the child with only books,
He learns or perhaps memories but gives a baffled look.
But when she takes the child out of the class where there are no boundaries!
Here he works with his hands, learns better in these free surroundings.

Alas! Rote learning and learning for marks has become the norm of today.
Learning for the sake of knowledge and pleasure is a thing of yesterday.
Each parent is in the pursuit to attain the academic mark,
Doesn’t even spend time with his child in the park?

Every day the race begins to get into a professional college and attain a degree
Worried parents, overburdened children, stressed teachers is what I see.
Isn’t the schools and families which taught ethics a thing of the past?
No insight building, just information gathering as the curriculum is too vast!

Aren’t we producing robots that do not question, enquire, or think?
Too aloof, too busy, or too stupid not to act, react, ponder, or bethink!
Reducing the syllabus, giving reservations and marks moderation is not a solution!
Holistic Learning, Ethical Teaching, & Social Responsibility is an achievable reality, not a delusion!

Let us as parents and teachers take the first plunge,

So our children may never feel guilty in free play when they indulge.
